The 46th Australasian Universities Building Education Association (AUBEA) 2023 Conference will be hosted in association with AUBEA from 26-28 November 2023 in Auckland, New Zealand. The theme of the conference this year is Creating Capacity and Capability: Embracing Advanced Technologies for Sustainable Future in Building Education and Practice. This theme carries on the core mission of AUBEA to promote and improve teaching and research in building/construction through communication, collaboration and scholarly events. AUBEA 2023 Conference will continue the tradition for AUBEA to become the collaboration platform for academics, industry practitioners and students in building to exchange good practices in educating the next generation of building professionals. This time, we bring the AUBEA conference back to Auckland. New Zealand has an enviable reputation for being one of the most beautiful and liveable countries in the world. It was also one of the most protected countries from the global pandemic. The construction and building industry in New Zealand have been enjoying an unprecedented growth in the last couple of years, particularly in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city and economic powerhouse. It is indeed a dynamic and exciting place to host the next AUBEA conference. Authors of selected high quality papers on relevant themes may be invited to develop their papers to be considered for possible publication in a special issue in: - Journal of Information Technology in Construction (ISSN:1874-4753) - International Journal of Construction Supply Chain Management (ISSN 1179-0776) - The Journal of Built Environment Project and Asset Management (BEPAM), ISSN: 2044-124X Note: Publications in the special issue in the above journals will be subject to the usual full double blind peer review process. The AUBEA conference has earned the reputation as a global conference. The AUBEA 2023 Conference is no exception and is expected to attract delegates and high quality papers from prominent academics, students as well as industry practitioners.

A pioneer of research on Uncrewed Aerial System applications in the built environment, Javier is Director of the CONECTech Lab at Georgia Tech, which aims to establish the Construction 4.0 framework for developing next generation technology enhanced solutions for construction problems. He has over 20 years of academic and industry experience and has authored over 100 academic articles. His research has been nationally and internationally recognized and focuses on construction information technologies, including virtual and augmented reality, reality capture technology, and Uncrewed Aerial Systems application in the AEC domain. Javier is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) as well as an FAA Licensed Drone Pilot.

Rick began his career in construction in 1973 as a cadet engineering officer with the Ministry of Works. He worked his way up through the commercial construction industry, eventually working as a Regional Construction Manager for a large national contractor. He completed an MBA in 1995, subsequently working in General Manager or Chief Executive roles in the marine engineering contracting, the manufacture of engineered wood products, and the industrial mechanical construction sectors. Rick prioritises the positive, values-based culture of our business, the engagement of our people, and the satisfaction of our customers.

Dr. Nan Li is Associate Professor and Assistant Dean at the Department of Construction Management, School of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua University. He is also Director of the Institute of Sustainable Urbanization at Tsinghua. Dr. Li’s research focuses on understanding and improving the resilience of the built environments, including buildings, infrastructure systems and humans whose needs they serve, by extensive applications of advanced informatics and computational approaches. His research has produced over 100 academic publications, which have received over 5400 citations. He currently serves as associate editor of Advanced Engineering Informatics and ASCE Journal of Management in Engineering. He was recognized by Forbes China’s “30 Under 30” list, MIT Technology Review’s “35 Innovators Under 35 in China” list, and Elsevier’s Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list.

Rod Cameron is Co-Lead of the programme and a Chartered Professional Engineer experienced in project management, project direction and owner representative roles in Australia and New Zealand, based on international experience in civil and structural engineering and construction. His work has been centred on property, building and construction and industry within large and small organizations. Particular successes have been achieved in the management of diverse, multi– disciplinary functions, in the activities of complex projects, in contract administration, in owner representation, in value management and in capture, dissemination and new directions from lessons learnt.
